Birth of Tau Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma
The January 15, 1931 issue of the Mexia Daily News carried a story to the effect that on the evening of January 17 an organization and initiation ceremonies for Tau Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma of Limestone County, followed by a banquet, would be held in the cafeteria of Mexia High School.
Dr. Annie Webb Blanton of the University of Texas and Miss Mamie Sue Bastian, state president of Houston will conduct the organization of Tau Chapter. A local committee in charge of the banquet and other arrangements include Mrs. Sparks Jenkins, Miss Cora Seymour and Miss Annie Whitaker of the Mexia High School and Mrs. J. C. Cochran of Mexia.
On the evening set aside, January 17, 1931, the Tau Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma was organized in Mexia by Dr. Annie Webb Blanton, National President of Delta Kappa Gamma and Miss Mamie Bastian, Alpha State President with the following chartered members:

No previous chapter ( and 18 had been ushered into the Delta Kappa Gamma world before Tau chapter) had been accorded the signal honor which Tau loves to mention among its members. Tau chapter was the first at which both the national and state president officiated in the initiation.
On that evening a spark of inspiration was fanned into a flame which quickened the hearts of a large number of women teachers of both Limestone and Freestone counties.
Thus was forged the nineteenth link of an organization that was destined to soon make itself known and loved in every state in the United States. That link now forges into foreign countries.
